Soil Bio Technology / SBT

Soil Bio Technology or SBT is a novel type of Constructed Soil Filter (CSF).  SBT is convered under an old now obsolete/expired patent authored by Prof HS Shankar at Dept of Chemical Engineering IIT Bombay.  The  IITB patents have now expired and trademarks to SBT and Soil Bio Technology is administered by Prof HS Shankar and his representatives. SBT pertains to the use of red soil and pheretima elongata earthworms for waste water treatment. Typically SBT type waste water treatment plants require around 2000 sqm/MLD of space for treatment.  

SBT has been developed and patented by the research group at Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay (Powai).  It is covered by two US patents (patent no 6890438 B2 dated 5 May 2005 and 7604742 B2 dated 20 October 2009) and 2 Indian patents (patent no - 203744 and 203425) all assigned to IIT Bombay. Soil Bio Technology ® has been superceded by  called variant CAMUS® (Continuous Advanced Mite Utilizing System ®) are registered trademarks of Vision Earthcare which has been instrumental in promoting and commercializing the technology across India.
